FAQ

What is light saber choreography?
Light saber choreography is basically creating staged fights using the light saber as weapon of choice.

What is stage combat?
Stage combat is a specialized technique in theatre designed to create the illusion of physical combat without causing harm to the performers. (Taken from wikipedia.org)

What is "sticks and ale"?
"Sticks and ale" is slang for going out to eat after Jedi class.

What are the letters?
The letters are a system of pre-choreographed moves.

Why do I have to learn the letters?
Letters have two functions. One, they are an excellent tool for learning how to control your saber. Two, they are a quick reference in helping to put a fight together and remember it.

If I don't feel comfortable doing something do I have to do it?
If you don't feel comfortable doing something that's being taught in class, tell the teacher and just sit to the side till you feel ready to join the group again. See the safety policy here. (link)

Where do you show fights?
We show fights mainly at conventions like GameXpo, Wizard World Philly, New York Comic Con, etc.

Can I be a Sith?
Although we are called New Jedi Order, you can be a Sith. We represent all sides of the force, including the gray.

Do I have to be a Star Wars canon persona?
Absolutely not! We have members that pull inspiration from all walks of life.

Do I have to have a certain type of light saber?
Yes. We use stunt sabers or light sabers that have been created for dueling. Stunt sabers are made with the LED in the hilt, these illuminate a blade filled with reflective material. Other sabers are made with a strip of LEDs in the blade, and with the amount of pounding we give our sabers these LEDs can easily break, so don't use this type of saber unless you want a blotchy looking light saber.
